This is the official website of the movie Gangster Squad. This website markets its genre of film by giving the website the house style conventions of a gangster film website. On the homepage of this website there is a poster in the background with the main lead characters on it. The gun held by one of the character, shows the audience of this website that this film will have some violence in it. It also makes the audience aware of the genre of the film; if there are guns involved then it must be a gangster or police action film. The background colours used in this website is dark, such as Black and Grey. These colours are conventions of a gangster film and these colours convey the main themes associated with this film. For example, the main themes could be murder, sadness, betrayal and misery.

The Departed is one of the many movies that used social media to promote itself to the people around the world. This movie promoted itself by publicising its trailers on TV adverts and on YouTube channel. Publicising trailers on YouTube is a great way to promote a movie as YouTube is the second best visited site on the internet with 790 million monthly visitors.

The use of social media networking such as Facebook to create a page for fans of this film to like it and to follow updates about the movie, allowed a lot of people to know more about this film in depth such as the release date. On Facebook this movie page had just over 2 million likes, which shows us how popular this film was.

Film director case study
Martin Scorsese is an
American film director from America. He was born in Queens, New York, however
his parents were from Sicily in Italy. As a child he was often taken to the
theatre by his parents, which sparked his love for film.
He attended New York
university’s film school where he produced a umber of short films. In 1967, Scorsese made his first
feature-length film called I Call First, which was later renamed Who's
That Knocking at My Door with two friends from university. In 1973, Scorsese
directed Mean Streets, his first film to be widely
acknowledged as a masterpiece. Revisiting characters from Who's
That Knocking at My Door? The film showcased elements that have since become typical
features of Scorsese's filmmaking, including dark themes, unsympathetic lead characters, religion,
the Mafia, unusual camera techniques and contemporary music.
Over the course of
the 1970s and 1980s, Scorsese directed hard-hitting films that helped define a
generation of cinema, including Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and The departed.
